“Payoff amount” in Malay is commonly translated as jumlah pelunasan or jumlah untuk melunaskan pinjaman: the total needed to settle a debt in full. This calculator estimates the payoff balance on a fixed-rate loan after a chosen number of monthly payments; enter the original loan amount, APR, term, and payments already made to see the estimated remaining balance.

Formula

The calculator estimates the balance after k scheduled monthly payments on a level-payment, fixed-rate loan. It first calculates the monthly payment, then subtracts the accumulated value of those payments from the loan’s accumulated balance:

  • Monthly rate: r = APR / 1200, where APR is entered as a percentage per year.
  • Monthly payment: M = round[P × r / (1 − (1 + r)−n), 2].
  • Estimated remaining balance: B = P × (1 + r)k − M × [(1 + r)k − 1] / r.

P is the original principal in dollars; r is the monthly interest rate as a decimal; n is the scheduled number of monthly payments; k is the number of payments already made; M is the monthly payment in dollars; and B is the estimated remaining balance in dollars. The input APR is converted from a percentage to a monthly decimal by dividing by 1200. The term is entered in years and converted to months by multiplying by 12.

Worked Example

Using the calculator’s defaults—$20,000 principal, 8% APR, a five-year term, and 12 payments already made:

  1. Convert the annual rate: r = 8 / 1200 = 0.0066667 per month, and set n = 5 × 12 = 60 payments.
  2. Calculate the payment: M = round[20,000 × 0.0066667 / (1 − (1.0066667)−60), 2] = $405.53.
  3. Apply the balance formula after 12 payments: B = 20,000 × (1.0066667)12 − 405.53 × [(1.0066667)12 − 1] / 0.0066667.
  4. The estimated balance is $16,398.82, rounded to cents.

What “Payoff Amount” Means in Malay

Malay wording depends on context. Jumlah means “amount” or “total,” while pelunasan refers to settling or fully repaying an obligation. So jumlah pelunasan is a concise rendering of “payoff amount.” For a loan-specific explanation, jumlah untuk melunaskan pinjaman makes the meaning explicit: the amount required to repay the loan in full.

These are translations, not a guarantee that every lender or document uses exactly the same phrase. A translated statement should be read in its full context. “Payoff amount” is also not necessarily interchangeable with the original loan amount, the regular installment, or the balance shown on an older statement.

Why a Payoff Amount Can Differ From the Balance

A loan balance is a snapshot calculated at a particular time. A payoff quote is a settlement figure for a specified date. Interest may continue to accrue between the statement date and the date money is received and applied, so the amount requested for a later date can differ from a previously displayed balance.

The calculator gives an estimate based on the information entered and a simplified schedule. It does not calculate a lender’s date-specific quote. A lender may use a different day-count method, payment posting date, rounding procedure, or account-specific adjustments. Any charges or credits associated with the account are also outside this calculation.

How to Use the Calculator

  • Loan amount: Enter the original principal, not the current balance, unless the loan began at that amount.
  • APR: Enter the annual percentage rate as a percentage, such as 8 for 8%, rather than 0.08.
  • Loan term: Enter the scheduled term in years. The calculator converts it to a number of monthly payments.
  • Payments made: Enter the number of scheduled payments already made. Use whole payments; the estimate does not model a payment made partway through a billing period.

The result is most meaningful when the loan has a fixed rate, payments are level and monthly, and payments have been made as scheduled. If the inputs describe a different payment pattern, the estimate may not match the account.

Common Translation and Calculation Mistakes

A frequent misconception is that the payoff amount is simply the monthly payment multiplied by the months left. That ignores interest accruing on the outstanding principal. Another mistake is to assume that the remaining balance is the exact amount a lender will accept on any date. The calculator estimates a scheduled balance; a dated payoff quote can include timing adjustments and account-specific items.

  • Do not enter a current balance as the original principal and then also count past payments; that counts the repayment history twice.
  • Do not enter APR as a decimal when the field expects a percentage. Enter 8 for 8%.
  • Check the term unit. The field is in years, not months.
  • Use the number of payments actually applied, not merely the number of calendar months since borrowing.

Assumptions

  • The interest rate is fixed for the full loan term.
  • Payments are made monthly at the end of each period, and the first payment follows one full monthly period after borrowing.
  • Interest compounds monthly at APR divided by 12.
  • The monthly payment is rounded to the nearest cent, and the model assumes that rounded amount is paid each month.
  • Fees, taxes, insurance, escrow, late charges, extra payments, skipped payments, and lender-specific payoff adjustments are not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you say “payoff amount” in Malay?
Jumlah pelunasan is a concise option. Jumlah untuk melunaskan pinjaman is a more explicit phrase meaning the amount needed to settle a loan.

Is payoff amount the same as outstanding balance?
Not always. An outstanding balance is a balance at a particular point in time, while a payoff amount is generally the figure required to settle the account for a specified date. The lender’s quote is the relevant source for an exact settlement figure.

Does this calculator give the exact amount to close my loan?
No. It estimates the balance under the assumptions shown. Request a date-specific payoff quote from the lender for the exact amount and instructions.

Can I use this for a variable-rate loan?
Only as a rough illustration if you enter one rate. The formula assumes the APR stays fixed, so it does not model rate changes or the resulting payment and balance adjustments.

What should I enter for payments made?
Enter the number of monthly payments that have actually been applied to the loan. If payments were late, missed, irregular, or larger than scheduled, this estimate may not reflect the account history.

This result is an estimate, and the lender’s disclosure gives the exact figures.
