This auto loan calculator estimates a fixed-rate monthly payment and total interest from the amount borrowed, annual percentage rate (APR), and loan term. Enter the figures from a lender’s offer to see the estimated payment and interest; the calculator does not provide or predict KeyBank’s current rates.

Formula

The calculator uses the standard fixed-payment loan formula. It converts the annual percentage rate to a monthly rate, then calculates the payment that would repay the principal and interest in equal monthly installments:

  • Monthly payment: P × r ÷ [1 − (1 + r)−n]
  • Total interest: (monthly payment × n) − P

P is the amount financed in dollars; r is the monthly interest rate, calculated as APR ÷ 1,200; and n is the number of monthly payments, calculated as years × 12. The payment is displayed to the nearest cent. Total interest uses that rounded payment, so it can differ slightly from a lender’s exact amortization total.

Worked Example

Using the calculator’s default inputs—$20,000 borrowed, 8% APR, and a five-year term:

  1. Convert APR to a monthly rate: 8 ÷ 1,200 = 0.0066667.
  2. Convert the term to payments: 5 × 12 = 60 months.
  3. Apply the payment formula: $20,000 × 0.0066667 ÷ [1 − (1.0066667)−60] = $405.53 per month, rounded to cents.
  4. Calculate total interest using the displayed payment: ($405.53 × 60) − $20,000 = $4,331.80.

Assumptions

  • The interest rate stays fixed for the full loan term.
  • Payments are made monthly, at the end of each monthly period.
  • Interest is modelled monthly at APR ÷ 12.
  • Fees, taxes, insurance, optional products, down payment, trade-in value, and other charges are not included unless reflected in the amount financed.

KeyBank Auto Loan Rates: What to Check

A bank’s auto loan rate is not one universal number available to every applicant. A lender may quote a rate based on details such as the vehicle, loan term, amount financed, application information, and whether the car is new or used. Posted rate information, when available, may describe only a particular product or borrower profile and may change. Do not treat an advertised starting rate as a personal offer or as a promise of approval.

For KeyBank specifically, check its official auto-loan information or contact the bank for current availability, terms, and an individualized quote. Confirm whether the quoted rate is an APR, what assumptions it uses, and whether the offer applies to the vehicle you intend to finance. Rates and eligibility can change; this page does not verify current KeyBank pricing.

How Auto Loan Rates Affect Cost

APR and term work together to shape the payment and total borrowing cost. Holding the loan amount and term constant, a higher APR raises the scheduled payment and interest. Holding the amount and APR constant, a longer term generally lowers the monthly payment but gives interest more time to accrue. That is why a payment alone is not enough for comparing offers: check the amount financed, APR, term, and total of payments together.

For example, the default calculation shows how a $20,000 balance at 8% APR over 60 months produces an estimated $405.53 monthly payment and $4,331.80 in interest under the stated assumptions. It is a mathematical example, not a KeyBank rate quote. Enter the rate and term shown in an actual disclosure to estimate that offer’s payment.

Compare Offers and Avoid Common Mistakes

To compare financing offers consistently, use the same amount financed and term in each calculation. If one quote includes a different down payment, trade-in credit, fee, or optional product, the resulting loan amount will differ and the payment comparison will not isolate the rate.

  • Ask for the APR, amount financed, term, monthly payment, and total amount paid in writing.
  • Check whether the quote is conditional and whether it applies to the exact vehicle and loan structure.
  • Distinguish the vehicle’s price from the amount financed: cash down, trade-in equity, taxes, fees, or added products can alter the balance.
  • Do not compare monthly payments without comparing loan lengths. A lower payment may result from more months rather than a lower overall cost.
  • Use the lender’s disclosed figures for final decisions; this calculator does not account for every contract detail.

A common misconception is that an advertised “starting” APR is the rate all borrowers receive. It is not necessarily an individualized rate. Another is that APR and the nominal interest rate are always interchangeable: APR is a standardized borrowing-cost measure, while the contract’s interest rate is used to accrue interest. The lender’s disclosure explains the figures applicable to that offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are KeyBank’s current auto loan rates?
Rates can change and may depend on the loan and borrower. Check KeyBank’s official information or request a current written quote; this calculator does not retrieve live rates.

What APR should I enter?
Enter the annual percentage rate stated in the lender’s offer. Do not substitute a rate found in an advertisement unless the lender confirms it applies to your specific quote.

Does this calculator include taxes and fees?
No. It calculates from the amount financed, APR, and term. If a charge is included in the loan balance, include it in the amount financed; otherwise, the result will not represent that charge.

Why might my lender’s payment differ?
The contract may use different payment dates, rounding, financed charges, or other terms. The calculator also assumes equal monthly payments and a fixed rate, so its result is an estimate.

Does a longer auto loan term reduce total interest?
Not necessarily. A longer term can reduce the scheduled monthly payment while increasing the number of months interest is charged. Compare total payments and the contract details, not just the monthly amount.

This result is an estimate; the lender’s disclosure gives the exact figures.
