An Affirm payoff amount is the amount needed to fully pay off a specific purchase plan on a particular date. This calculator estimates the remaining balance from your original loan amount, APR, term, and number of payments already made; use your current plan details for a more accurate estimate.
Formula
The estimate uses the standard balance formula for a fixed-rate loan with equal monthly payments:
B = P(1 + r)k − M × ((1 + r)k − 1) / r
- B is the estimated balance after the payments entered, in dollars.
- P is the original amount financed, in dollars.
- r is the monthly rate, calculated as APR ÷ 1,200.
- k is the number of monthly payments already made.
- M is the scheduled monthly payment, in dollars, rounded to cents.
The payment calculation is M = P × r / (1 − (1 + r)−n), where n is the total number of monthly payments (years × 12). The total scheduled interest shown is payment × number of payments minus the original amount. This is a mathematical estimate, not a balance retrieved from an Affirm account.
Worked Example
Using the calculator’s default values: original amount $1,000, APR 10%, term 1 year, and 3 payments made:
- Monthly rate: 10 ÷ 1,200 = 0.0083333.
- Number of scheduled payments: 1 × 12 = 12.
- Monthly payment: $1,000 × 0.0083333 ÷ (1 − (1 + 0.0083333)−12) = $87.92 after rounding to cents.
- Estimated balance after three payments: $1,000 × (1.0083333)3 − $87.92 × ((1.0083333)3 − 1) ÷ 0.0083333 = $758.26.
- Total scheduled interest over the full term: $87.92 × 12 − $1,000 = $55.04.
The example assumes all three payments were made on schedule and applies the rounded monthly payment in the balance calculation. Actual account figures can differ because of the plan’s terms, payment posting dates, rounding, or adjustments.
Assumptions
- The APR and payment amount remain fixed throughout the modeled term.
- Payments are equal monthly payments, made at the end of each monthly period.
- Interest is modeled monthly at APR divided by 12, with no daily accrual adjustment.
- Fees, taxes, refunds, returned payments, late charges, and other account adjustments are not included.
What an Affirm Payoff Amount Means
Affirm financing is arranged around an individual purchase plan. A payoff amount is the figure that settles that plan in full at a given point, rather than the original purchase price or the total of every scheduled payment. The exact amount is account-specific and may change over time.
For a plan with interest, some of each payment goes toward interest and the rest reduces principal. As payments are made, the unpaid balance generally declines, but the pace depends on the APR, term, payment timing, and whether the account has had adjustments. Some plans may have no interest under their stated terms; others may include interest. Check the agreement or account details instead of assuming that every plan has the same structure.
A payoff quote from the account is more authoritative than a calculator estimate. It reflects the plan’s actual payment history and the amount due for the relevant date. If you intend to pay the balance off, confirm the displayed amount and instructions through your account before sending money.
How to Find the Exact Amount
Sign in to the account associated with the purchase and open the relevant order or payment plan. Look for the current balance, payment schedule, or payoff information. The exact labels and available options can vary, so consult the account’s help information if the amount is not clear.
- Identify the specific purchase plan; multiple purchases can have separate balances.
- Check the date associated with any displayed payoff figure, since accrued interest can make timing relevant.
- Review recent payments and pending transactions to avoid relying on an outdated balance.
- If you cannot find a payoff figure, contact the provider through its official support channel and ask for the amount and payment instructions.
Do not treat the monthly payment multiplied by the months remaining as a payoff quote. That multiplication totals future scheduled payments, which may include interest that would not accrue after an early payoff. Conversely, the original amount financed is not necessarily the remaining principal after payments.
Why the Calculator May Differ from Your Account
This calculator assumes a conventional fixed-rate, level-payment loan. A real installment plan may use a different method for calculating interest or may record payments on dates that do not match neat monthly periods. It also cannot see refunds, promotional adjustments, missed or late payments, payment reversals, or any account-specific terms. Any one of these can shift the displayed account balance.
For a closer estimate, enter the amount actually financed rather than the advertised purchase price if they differ, use the APR in the plan documents, and count payments that have fully posted. The calculator does not model a payment made partway through a cycle, so its output should not be used as the amount to remit. When the balance is small, even a modest difference from timing or rounding can be significant.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my exact Affirm payoff amount?
Check the balance or payoff information for the specific purchase plan in your account. If no payoff figure is available, contact the provider through its official support channel and ask for the amount for your intended payment date.
Is the payoff amount the same as the remaining scheduled payments?
Not necessarily. Remaining scheduled payments can include future interest, while a payoff figure reflects what is required to settle the plan under its terms at a specific time. Use the account’s figure rather than simply adding the installments.
Does paying early reduce the amount owed?
It can affect interest on a plan that charges interest, but the result depends on the plan’s terms and how interest is calculated. Review the agreement and account balance to see how early payment applies to your particular plan.
Why is my account balance different from this estimate?
The estimate uses simplified monthly interest and assumes on-time, equal payments. Actual posting dates, plan-specific calculations, payment history, refunds, and other adjustments may produce a different figure.
Can I use this calculator for several Affirm purchases at once?
No. It models one fixed-rate loan with one original amount, APR, and term. Calculate each plan separately, then use the account’s current payoff information to confirm the combined amount if you are settling more than one.
